Shrinking Violets Clothing Exchange – June 29th!

Almost two years ago a trio of gals living on the lower South Hill decided to throw a party. Now this wasn’t going to be just any party, they wanted to go the extra mile and do something special. They had done a pot luck for young people in the neighborhood, had hosted a taco bar and craft parties, put on a spaghetti feed and celebrated a couple of birthdays. This time they had clothes on the brain, and building a stronger social women’s community in Spokane.

The result? Over 40 lovely ladies showed up to rake through each others’ stuff and find fun new things to wear. All for the unbeatable price of FREE!

Fast-forward two years and you find yourself in a different  Spokane. New albums have been released, restaurants have opened, and the city has spawned a new network of creative lady friends looking to lift each other up and help make a positive impact – the Shrinking Violets!

Please join us in making a new tradition at the first annual  Shrinking Violets Clothing Swap:

Thank you to everyone who came out yesterday and made the clothing swap a great success! Treasures were traded and everyone went home happy (many with huge bags of goodies). Thanks also to our venue, Art Music & More, for use of their awesome space and help setting up.

Printing costs were more than covered, the Shrinking Violets made $106 during this event! This helps to ensure more great events like this in the future, we plan to keep them coming!

The extra clothes will be used by the Youth Sustainability Council for a reconstructed/repurposed fashion project led by local designer, Lexi Carr.

Sorry to miss it – date night with my kids last night! (The Scoop! Yeah!) Saving my clothes for the next one, ladies :)

  • Sorry I missed it, I’ll bring some clothes next time!

  • I was able to attend both the original clothing swap and the most recent swap. I felt that the first swap was more of a social gathering and a lot of fun. Clothes were piled on top of two tarps on the floor, newcomers would dump there bags as they came in and there was a frenzy of women checking out the newly added items. We were all on our knees shifting through the clothes, laughing and making new friends.
The latest swap did not offer nearly the same appeal. At first I was impressed by the organization of the sizes but I quickly realized that this formality had turned the event into more of a shopping experience than a good time. It was ok and I did bring a few things home but I much prefer the former to the latter. I hope that future swaps can be created with the idea of having a great time and not over analyzing or making things so efficient, there is enough of that in our day to day. Lets just have some fun, meet new friends and hopefully pick up some great new clothes as well.
